Other solidarity initiatives

The initiative Grow Food Banks started in June 2020 in response to the pandemic, aiming to raise awareness among as many people and companies as possible about the importance of keeping food banks stocked, thus helping the most vulnerable families. To date, more than 300 tonnes of assistance have been delivered, thanks to the generous help of everyone collaborating. Compass Group has managed to get clients, users, and suppliers involved in this project to support those most in need, even outside the borders of our country. In fact, 136,000 kilograms of our food was destined for Ukraine and its food banks. In these past weeks, more than 79,000 kg were destined for the crisis in the Valencian Community. The first weekend following the catastrophe, over 7,000 sack lunches with a sandwich and fruit were distributed to the most heavily affected areas.

As part of the Grow Food Banks initiative, we distribute our Panettones for Charity to people in vulnerable situations, every Christmas since 2021. More than 1,500 panettones have been distributed in 8 autonomous communities (Community of Madrid, Community of Valencia, Andalusia, Catalonia, Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Basque Country, and Aragón). This typical Christmas sweet is made by the prestigious pastry chef Oriol Balaguer, winner of the 2nd Competition for the best Artisanal Panettone in Spain, and more recently the Pierre Gagnaire award, with recognizes his career, work, and effort in the sector. With this action, we hope to share a special treat beyond the typical food donations, which focus on basic essentials.

We collaborate with the World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization founded in 2010 by chef José Andrés that offers meals in response to humanitarian, weather-related, and community crises. We donated 51,000 portions to them in 2022 for Ukraine. In addition, since 6 November 2024, our central location in Barcelona is preparing 10,000 daily rations for the WCK, to be distributed to those affected by the DANA in Valencia.
